CAMPIONI; THE NEW ITALIAN JOB Capello promises success but pampered England players are stunned by new training regime.(Sport) - The Mirror (London, England)

FABIO CAPELLO began his reign yesterday by treating his England flops to a new hard-line approach - and then promised to turn them into champions.

The no-nonsense manager delivered a rallying cry to the players before taking two training sessions as he sought to get tough straight away.

The Italian boss has introduced new rules into his England regime, which will mean:

DOUBLE training sessions and more work on defending after a catalogue of previous mistakes.

SCRAPPING visits to the hotel - and that means no agents, no hangers-on and no WAGS as the cosy 'Club England' era comes to a sudden halt.

BANNING mobile phones and flip-flops.

ORDERING the team to wear suits, not tracksuits, to games and to dress smartly for meals.

Making 'winning' the new buzzword.

Star club performers are no longer guaranteed their place, with David Beckham's omission keeping the squad on edge.

Training again on match-days on Wednesday mornings.

Naming the team just before kick-off to keep the players guessing.

Capello's new tough approach has come into immediate effect before tomorrow's friendly with Switzerland at Wembley. And Steven Gerrard, set to be named captain, admitted that he is relishing a fresh start.

He said: 'Capello wants a winning team. He never once mentioned individuals - it was all about the team winning.'

Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips missed training and is doubtful to face the Swiss.
